Netherlands General Inspection Service for Agricultural Seeds and Seed Potatoes
The NAK, the Netherlands General Inspection Service for Agricultural Seeds and Seed Potatoes (nak.nl), inspects agricultural seeds and seed potatoes by order of the Dutch Minister of Agriculture, Nature Food Quality. These inspections are required by law. The NAK is an independent organisation, managed by representatives of growers, breeders and traders. The European Union (EU) has laid down minimum quality requirements for the seed potato trade. The member states are allowed to employ more stringent national requirements in their own countries.
The standards employed by the NAK are far stricter than the minimum EU standards. The NAK's quality requirements can compete with the most stringent requirements in any country. The Dutch seed potato grower is capable of meeting these stringent requirements thanks to his expertise. He ranks among the best in the world. The almost perfect Dutch soil and the ideal climate are of great help to him.
